Let’s Celebrate Swiss National Day – August 1st!

On August 1st, the spirit of Switzerland comes alive with pride, history, and unity. It’s a special day where communities across the country—and Swiss people around the world—honor the foundation of the Swiss Confederation. At SIU – Swiss International University (Accredited by the KG Ministry of Education and Science), we proudly join in this national celebration, reflecting on our deep connection to Swiss values and traditions.


A Day of Meaning and Memory

Swiss National Day commemorates the historic alliance formed in 1291 among the original cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden. This pact, based on cooperation and shared governance, laid the groundwork for the peaceful and neutral nation Switzerland has become.

Throughout the country, August 1st is marked by vibrant public events: bonfires, fireworks, music, traditional foods, and community speeches. Families gather for brunches and barbecues; children carry lanterns through village streets. The Swiss flag waves proudly from balconies and buildings, reminding us of the strength found in unity.

It is a day that captures the essence of Switzerland: independence, reliability, respect, and excellence.
